Donation Pickup

  • Supports housing and healthcare programs for people affected by homelessness and HIV/AIDS. 

    • Accepted Items: Clothing and accessories, housewares and home décor, furniture in excellent condition, jewelry and watches, art and framed pieces. 2 boxes max per dropoff. 

    • Donation Method: Dropoff at any Thrift Shop during business hours (depends on location)/ Pickup available for larger items like furniture, but often limited by location and condition.

MANHATTAN

  • Hardcover books. Does not accept magazines, encyclopedias, or journals.

    • Note: Proceeds from book sales support the New York Public Library system.

    • Donation Details: Accepts children's books, classics, religious books, comics/graphic novels, nonfiction books less than 20 years old, and fiction books less than 10 years old. Does not accept magazines, textbooks, foreign language books, or travel / computer / health / business books more than 5 years old.

  • They have a number of thrift shops, along with this wonderful bookstore, around New York. Their goal as a charity is to work to prevent AIDs and homelessness in the city. They provide housing and healthcare for at-risk individuals throughout New York.

    • Donation Details: Does not accept textbooks, magazines, encyclopedias, computer books, dated annuals or yearbooks

    • How to Donate: The bookstore is open 7 days a week for drop offs. They request no more than 2 full bags/boxes of books. You can also apply for a scheduled pick up if you have more books than this.

BRONX

  • This charity provides personalized support and household items for low-income families who have children to support.

    • Address: 424 East 147th Street, Floor 5, Bronx, NY 10455

    • Donation Details: Accepts baby books, toddler books, board books, picture books, and foreign language books for children.

    • How to Donate: Schedule a drop-off using their online form. They offer a pick-up service in NYC for a $100 fee. Alternatively, books can be mailed to the above address.

LONG ISLAND

  • Reading Reflections distributes children’s books to in-need organizations, schools, and social workers both overseas and throughout New York.

    • Locations: New York City, Woodbury Long Island, and Stony Brook Long Island (contact them for exact drop off locations)

    • Donation Details: Accepts children’s books, young adult books

    • How to Donate: Drop off, Pick up in some cases. Visit their website link above, and at the bottom of a page is a form to fill out for book drop offs. BROOKLYN

  • Their mission is to introduce reading into low-income communities through partnering with educators and libraries, but also community leaders like sports coaches, and healthcare professionals, to instill a love of reading into children at a young age, wherever they may be.

    • Donation Type: Drop off in book bin. For donations of over 50 books, they request you contact them to arrange a drop off at their headquarters on Flushing Avenue.

    • Locations: 4 dropoff points throughout Brooklyn: Brooklyn Greens, Brooklyn Navy Yard, Old Stone House, Brooklyn Board of Realtors

    • Hours: Vary by location; see their website for details.

    • Donation Details: Accepts children's books, young adult books, school-age books, nonfiction books, and foreign language books for children aged 0–18. Does not accept religious books, encyclopedias, textbooks, or activity books.

    • How to Donate: Use book bins at designated locations. For donations of over 50 books, contact them to arrange a drop-off at their headquarters on Flushing Avenue.

    • Website: Brooklyn Book Bodega

  • They operate as a means for prisoners to access books that can help them genuinely improve themselves. The organization does this by taking letters from incarcerated men and women, and matching their requests for books with the donated books they’re given. Once they’ve sorted and packaged the books, they will then mail these off to the prisoners.

    • Donation Details: Accepts paperback books, National Geographics, dictionaries, thesauruses, "how-to" books, self-help, art books, and some Spanish books. Does not accept hardcover books, computer books, children's books, encyclopedias, outdated books, or religious texts.

    • How to Donate: Drop off at Freebird Books at the above address. It's recommended to email info@booksthroughbarsnyc.org before dropping off to arrange a time.

  • They work with at-risk families, many of whom are refugees, to ensure they have a support base to raise a family in New York. One of their key goals is to increase affordable housing city-wide.

QUEENS

  • They stock “public libraries” in stations, parks, and other public places, they distribute donated books to schools and caregivers in their local community, as well as send books to severely in-need schools in countries like Sierra Leone and Ghana.

    • Primary Location: 70 N Main St, Freeport, NY 11520

    • Donation Details: Accepts children's books, baby books, fiction/non-fiction, activity books, comic books, cookbooks, and textbooks up to 10 years old. Does not accept magazines, self-published books, encyclopedias, or religious/faith books.

    • How to Donate: Main warehouse has a 24/7 book bin for smaller drop-offs. For more than 25 books, make an appointment to drop off at the warehouse. They have book drop bins at various locations; see their website for details. For large donations (5+ boxes), they offer pick-up services in Long Island and Eastern Queens.

NYC (GENERAL)

  • This charity leads a nationwide effort to introduce books to children when they see their pediatrician.

    • Donation Details: Accepts baby books, children’s books

    • How to Donate: Fill out this online form with your address information to schedule a pick up time and date.

Medical Supplies

  • Promotes the health, independence, and overall quality of life for older adults.

    • Accepted Items: Gently used medical equipment.  Categories include of items accepted include canes, crutches, armed crutches, plain walkers, rollators (with seat), wheelchairs, portable commodes, toilet seat supports with arms, shower chairs, bed guard rails, transfer chairs (with push handles), folding tray table, knee walkers, grab rails (under mattress bed assist). Shower grab bars are also available.

    • Donation Method: Dropoff on either Monday or Tuesday afternoon, with appointment only, at Holy Trinity Church (213 W. 82nd Street between Broadway and Amsterdam)
